Challenge 8 – Delt Press, Oblique Plank Crunch, Climbers & Mixed Cues
With summer just around the corner now is the perfect time to get to work on shapely shoulders and uncovering those 6 pack abs while also having your pooch practice obedience cues.
To do the delt press, position yourself in a pike position with your hands turned in towards each other, legs straight and feet as close as you can move them towards your head. Bending your elbows, press downwards to move your head as close to touching the ground as possible. Return to start position and repeat. They may look easy but when done properly you will feel every single one! Start with a set of 20 breaking it up into as many sets as you need to get them all done with good form.
Shake out your arms then go into a low plank position. While maintaining the plank, alternately bring each knee up to touch your shoulder (or as close as you can). Repeat for a set of 10 on each side.
Lastly go into a high plank position and complete 20 mountain climbers – great way to work the lower abs!
Take a break and then repeat the above one more time. As you progress over the month, reduce the break time until you can repeat the entire sequence twice without resting.
There are many options when it comes to working on your dog’s obedience while you exercise. You could choose to practice a long down or sit for the entire time it takes you to complete all of the above, or you can choose to practice multiple cues as you transition into each exercise.
Whatever you decide, it would improve your dog’s response to cues so get off the couch and get busy!
