The second Sunday of every August is dedicated to our annual Doggie Duathlon which helps us support local animal charities. Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park provides a beautiful setting for this fun, non-competitive event where you and your pooch can enjoy a 2, 5 or 8.5 km walk/run followed by an optional 25 or 50 m swim. Thanks to our sponsors we have a a random prize draw for all participants too! Click on a tab for more details about the event.
Each of the walk/run options below lead to the doggie beach at Cosens Bay for the optional 25 or 50 m swim to complete the duathlon.
Water stations are shown on each map. Please note that the number and location of water stations will be dependent on the number of participants.
To view videos of each route, simply click on the applicable link.
Details on the packet pickup for registered participants will be posted the week before the event. Please check back here and/or watch our FaceBook!
The Doggie Duathlon begins promptly at 8 a.m. so be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of time at the main entrance to the park (yellow gate). Please park in the last parking lot where the event will start from.
Runners will be started first for all distances, immediately followed by walkers. It is your responsibility to ensure you have full control of your leashed dog throughout the entirety of the event.
Upon completion of the walk/run portion, the swim portion will be available for your leashed pooch, but of course you are always free to swim with them! When you exit the water you will be presented with your pooch’s “medal” and have completed the duathlon! Should you wish to remain in the beach area please move to the designated doggie beach area and ensure your dog does not interfere with other participants still completing the duathlon. To avoid unwanted trash on the beach and trails, snacks and juices will be available to you at the start location following the event and you can check there to find out if you were the winner of the random prize draw too!
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in following the rules of this event and the Provincial Park laws to ensure that we are able to hold future Doggie Duathlons at this scenic location!
We are very fortunate (and forever grateful) to have Barry from Kiss the Monkey Photography available to do professional photos for the event. After the event the photos are available for purchase for a small fee! Details will be posted on our Facebook page once the photos are available for viewing online. Barry has been very generous in providing his services for our Doggie Duathlon since its inception so please consider booking your next family or special occasion photos with him!
We are also thankful to our incredible sponsors that help make this event successful! Without their support the goodies in participants’ packets and random prize draws would not be possible, so be sure to say thank you if you visit their businesses in Vernon or online!
